New Prints up for saleand New stickers for sale....great show at the Charlotte Comicon!!

So, I have some new work up for sale under my "web specials" tab. I will migrate some of these items to my store soon, but if you want the above items, just click the web specials tab and order directly through our pay pal.  Currently the "1 up" stickers are up for $5 as a die cut (i will have square and circle ones later),and  also as 11x17 black and white prints. Also, prints of my Boba Fett piece, simply called "Fett" are for grabs. They are $15 each, which includes shipping, or you can get one of the limited hand finished numbered prints for $35, price included shipping. The limited ones will ship with a certificate of authenticity as well. All prints are signed regardless....

Also, i did my last con for the season yesterday, i have been behind on some work and catching up as quickly as possible, lots to mail out, but i had to make this show due to Dave and Rick being part of where i got my start in doing shows. They have always been beyond kind to me and helped in so many ways throughout my career. They are hands down the nicest coolest guys ever!! They have allowed me to stay a permanent part of their show, and i am thankful. I always have a great time, see good friends, and meet new people. That's exactly how it went Sunday! i hung out and caught up with another great artist from my God City Crew, and saw others who have become great friends over time, and made new friends, and had great conversations. I also met two other artist, one who loves illustrating people, the other who loves doing abstract pieces, and i am trading off work with one maybe both in the future.   Lots of support at the show, and a desire to expand what i take to shows and offer the people i get to meet! Thanks to all who hung out, bought stuff, or just said hi!! My next shows start in January, then i think it kicks back in heavy in April.  Forgive typos, im researching, drawing, hanging with my daughter, watching my little pony, and replying to things all at once.

Con seasons coming to an end, enjoying moving forward, working hard, and other stuff.....

I just did two show that treated me very very well! NC Con and VA Con (two day show).  Both of these shows still keep a heavy focus on artist, both indie and larger names, but the great thing is that its love across the board with these shows. I do this (art, design, branding) full time. I am not rich, and still building a name for myself, but shows like this help keep you motivated against all odds. If every show was like this, i would be  doing shows every weekend lol.  The promoters treat us well, and the people are super supportive at these two shows. I guess the past few years have been more about figuring out what works.... I have a better idea now  i would say.  There are still some i want to check out, but i have figured out what shows are a little more important to rush to get in for and which ones i wouldn't really be missed at lol.  I am shaping things for the future. I have projects i am working on for others, all while building my own works up and prepping to move forward with many things next year.   These two shows were super cool and the turnout was great!! i hope to do both next year as well as try out a few others. Durham and Richmond, well, NC AND VA, Thank you Greatly.... I have one more show this year, it's another Favorite of mine, and one of the first shows that gave me a shot at this art thing, NC Comicon. It's a December show (check the news?events page for date and location), and will round up my con season for the year. I always have a great time there, Dave and Rick are the best and treat everyone so well!! I always look  forward to the shows with them. They have 3 a year, spread out in good fashion, and each one is better and better!!  So i will end the art tour and the homie Kiser calls it, at home, then pick up gain in January. I have some other things i am working on for next year, so cons will be only one way to catch me and my work floating around...... soon to announce others.....

on another note, i officially finished up some sketch cards for a project Topps is doing, i hope it goes well, and opens other doors, either way i was welcomed in with lots of love, and enjoyed what i have done so far..... Look forward to hopefully doing more....

Working on a great project also with a brilliant writer and film visionary, i won't say much now, but more later.....

Spoke for a whie with my good friend and Co writer of Fairy Tale Knights, Jerale Clebourne.  I hope i spelled his first name right! forgive me J.... but we talked and he said he is still down to work on the projects we began with, which is great cause i have been taking forever and a week to get what we started with done.  Mainly due to trying to make everything live up to my expectations of myself artisticly, and keep up with his incredible writing.  So bare with, as we forge forward. I think it will be orth it....

Shout out to my homie and family member Bill! good seeing you guys in Durham!!

I also met an extreme talent by the name of JoeyMcIntosh. (real last name as far as i know.) Words don't express how visually stunning this guy is. I know he has his own path, i intend to involve him in as many projects as i can for things to come.  I will post some of his work soon i hope to collab with him, and just want to see some work out there from this guy... simply amazing....

met a bunch of cool people, some who are aiming to get my work in front of people that know people and see what happens, and i am working out details on a show called Awesome con.... timing.... gotta get in!!

all and all,

speak soon.... new jackets will be up for sale soon, image posted above, if you want one now, email me (check the contact page), 100 image digital book is still up, check the tabs above to order it. Physical copies are currently sold out, but i will be taking orders again soon hopefully...

peace to all

More to come.....

So as I prep to head to Durham this weekend for a convention, I wanted to speak on a few things going on.  First, I just signed on to project with  John Errington  Productions, it's a film and production company with a pretty nice resume behind them.  We met through mutual friends at Lift
Off Photographpy and began talking film, graphic novels, good stories, marketing etc. This lead to me getting a chance to be concept artist/ illustrator for a project that will also branch into being a film and possibly animation or game. I have a few projects I am a part of (gotta feed the kids, lol) but this one is cool not only due to who I am working with, but do to knowing it could advance into a good amount of future work for me. Which is always a good thing. So it's cool to be a part of this project on many levels!! More details as I can release them!.....
Aside from this, I am also embarking on a expanding other elements of what I have done in the past. Art related events, speaking engagements, art lessons, and a focus on bigger art lager events, packaging, design, branding in general.  I am partnering with a small team of people to form GOrilla Bred Breanding LLC.  The focus will be branding, consulting, packaging, design, cross marketing, and doing super cool events! Illustration will stay play a part in many ways, but design and such will be the main stay.  The web site will grow over time, it will show case things we are doing including a massive event we have in the works, as well as blogging about just cool things we have nothing to do with. Initially the site will not have a million elements to it do to taking time to grow things. But it WILL GROW. So bare with.... I will post the official website soon, this site will still be up and updated as well, I will be releasing my personal comic projects through GOrilla Bred Comics, a division of GOrilla Bred Branding LLC.  Slowly I will move things to Gorilla Bred Studios and move away from the Rebel Star Studios brand for mixed reasons. So all in all some changes for great reasons and staying busy, but looking to be busier.  Also, I will be posting the updated commission prices soon, just sorting out something's, I should do a post on how hard it is to price these things sometimes and how different people view art in general..... Maybe another time. Anyway, this and more soon, and thanks for all the support and help with my growth!!!!

and on it GOES....

I only have about 3 shows left for the con season.  I am really looking hard at next year and expanding where i go, while possibly decreasing where i have been. After doing certain shows for a few years, i realized, i probably will not grow or gain anything more from doing certain shows every year. I had a bad experience with one show in particular, and attempted to resolve it in a peaceful manner, but was all but ignored.... A version of me from a different time in life would have reacted differently, did something or said something.... but the me of today looks at business and life differently. I handle certain things differently. It's business at the end of the day and even if it's crooked business, I can make choices that move me in a different direction. I don't even make my choices to try to get "even", i just strive to do better myself, and grow my overall brand and expand my reach for the success of what i do and the family i do it for. The example i set to the people i speak to, the people i speak for, and the people i will eventually speak with..... So with all that said, my usual show line up will see changes next year. Certain "regulars" with become every other year, while others i may drop all together. The ones that have been good to me, not just financially, but  the organizers behind them are just good people, will remain. Shows like Dave and Ricks Charlotte ComiCon. Its a 1 day show, but its fun, they treat everyone great, and have been very kind no matter what!! I will do that show as long as they have it and allow me to.  I treat every person who approaches my table at shows like they are the most important person i will meet that weekend. Even if i get busy, i try to not make anyone feel unimportant.   Or like they only matter as long as they are spending money, i honestly probably loose money sometimes because i talk with people who aren't buying just as much as those who are buying, making potential customers look over and think "he is busy i will come back" lol,  something i am working on, slowly, balance. But the point is, don't wait til someone becomes something greater to treat them great.... not so much me, but people in general. But the bigger reason for my change up is that some hows are the same for me or peeked at a certain point and are dropping down rather than increasing. So i realized that it is time to expand and go to locations out of my usual and see other places. I Did maybe 15 shows this year, a lot to some, nothing to others, but good for me. Next year i may decrease the conventions in numbers, but pick up some locations i have never been and hopefully expand my reach. I have hopes to return to Atlanta next year, see Texas, and maybe venture to Chicago twice in one year for shows.... Either way, the show goes on, i am also looking into appearing at some Colleges, something i haven't done in a while and something i have studied over time to handle better. I am also looking into art shows for next and putting some events together that expand what i am doing that isn't directly me drawing or coloring or designing, though all of those elements play a sweet part of it all.  Growth.....  it seems simple enough.  So anywho, forgive the long verbiage, Oh and the prints above are up for sale including 5 limited hand inked and numbered sign versions, as well as the traditional print @ 11x17 in size.....
speak soon,
wOlly
p.s.
i met a young lady who loves transformers and left her email to get copies of books sent to review, i may have emailed the wrong email but not sure, if you are reading this, email me to let me know i got the wrong email lol or the right one....

Raffle has ended!!!

So, i had a raffle and there was some really great support for it, all but one winner has gained the work they won, i announced the winners on Face Book, i don't have the names handy to post here, but the art work is already in everyone's hand except one person, we are working his out currently!!  Thank you to all who supported!!....

Now this weekend is a great yet sad weekend for me, i am going to one of the coolest events of the year in Columbia South Carolina, Cola Con!!!! its the shows third year, and i am proud to have been part of it from the start. The sad thing is, Comic Book City Con happens this weekend as well, and i was one of the first to sign up for it, then had to cancel due to Cola Con being the same weekend... thing is though, Cola Con is Friday and Saturday, and Comic Book City Con is Saturday and Sunday. I had thought about asking if i could do a table for one day, but i figured the space was worth more to those guys and didn't want to waste a space someone else could fully use. I suck i know, i should have linked with someone and maybe sat with them for a day and paid them for the chance to be there, if i can't work out the details for this, this year, i will certainly aim for next year!! I really like being part of shows early....

On another note, i have to post some work here soon, i have been more active on my social networks than here and refuse to link everything, so i gotta get to updating.....

Last thing, a button will be going live with some preorder options for a new art book i am doing called Black Book Scribbles.... the book will be a  8x11 hardcover with100 pages of art, design, sketches, unreleased pieces, concepts  etc. and will have a few options starting at $40. There is a limited number of books to be sold in this run and aa limited time at the rates, so if your reading this now, check the tabs above for the button to appear if it isn't already there. This will be a great coffee table book piece!!

thanks to all, hope to see you at a show soon,
wOlly

Im having a Raffle, and other good stuff.....

Ok, so, i was fortunate to speak at the Cartooning Club in Indian trail recently, and i had a blast. I got caught in crazy traffic, but once i got there we had a great time. I am thankful to John Tompkins for having me and being super supported and pushing positive words about me.... he also sparked a thught and desire to get back into doing workshops and speakings at schools, and a few other things as well.....

On another page, I am heading to Winston Salem Sunday for a one day show, then prepping for Cola Con and maybe setting up right before that at the Literary Fest here in Charlotte NC.  That is still pending, but looking pretty good,

Currently I am also doing a raffle for the pieces listed above, there is no limit on the entries at $2 per entry and you can help by spreading the word or getting an entry or two for your self. Here on this site, just click the "raffle" button above to purchase your entry!

i am also working on the Black Panda and Fairy Tale Knights books daily, and working details out on another project, i cant say much about it yet, but its in the works.... on a not so bright note, i am no longer working on the Epic project for Dark City Comics. The project is still happening, i just will not be a part of it, much respect to them and the great future they have!!

until next posting.
peace

Just did Charlotte ComiCon, always a great show with Dave and Rick, Lift Off studios opening of the new studios they have, and the first all Transformers show with Charticon!!  It was an amazing show and i hope it returns next year. All these shows where great fun, i also added a show or two for this year and i have a new show for next year as well as one other i hope to confirm. Its been a good con season, i hope to make it better, met some good people at all the shows and a few at Charticon who made it feel like hanging with old friends and family!! So i have a few weeks before the next show and will working on the book Epic, as well as the animated works i have underway and a few other freelance projects. I sent some work over to IDW for review and i am looking into some other avenues also for package art etc. More to come from my Black Panda Project, and i will post new (old to me but unposted) art work soon. I am working out time to work on rebelstarstudios.net, which is very limited right now lol.

Shows, the Road, books, and more....

Ok, so the "art tour" as we like to call it started in January, and has been moving along steady. I just got back from Bristol Tenn. for Rob con and had a blast! This weekend i will be at the Grand Opening for Lift Off Photography Studios, i will have a little work on display and maybe some prints for sale, as well as  special piece i did or the studio. Sunday i will be at CharlottComiCon, with two of the greatest show organizers and promoters i know, Dave and Rick. Those guys have hown me sooooooOOOooooo much support over the years its crazy, so check the news events page for that address and come out if your in the area!!..... after that i will be doing Charlotte first Transformers Con, called Charticon. it looks like it will be major fun, the piece listed above, plus a Prime piece, will be on display with me for the show. I will also have a canvas piece that i may auction off, or sell, i don't know yet, but it will be there with me for sure. It should be a fun show with some art, toys, cosplay, and more!!   From there i will be heading out to Baltimore, Durham and Richmond VA or shows. I didn't get into NYC Con, sad face, but its cool, maybe next year, and due to timing and such, i may not make the Canada show either. I really really really want to do this show, but i don't know yet..... aside from shows, i am working on a few small animations for some personal projects and looking to launch a kick starter and an indigogo for two separate projects soon (September i hope). I am also finishing up a preview book for Dark City Comics as well as working on the first issue of a book called Epic. So the fall should see a few releases of work from me both for myself and others.  Aside from that i launched Rebel Star Stuiods "dot" net not long ago, its pretty much just sitting as i find time to work on it. So go there or come here for updates etc. Thanks to all, i will post more work etc soon, hope all is well, and thank you for any and all support!!

Monday, May 27, 2013

Ok..... it's been a while, and even this needs to be pretty quick lol.  Charlotte Comicon, Charlotte Mini Con, Free Comic Book day (thanks Troy and Rebel Base), and C2E2 were all AMAZING!!!! i had a blast and connected with old faces, and many new ones!! At this point i am preping for Heroes con, two weeks and counting down. Its a home town event that was one of the two conventions that got me into doing this and so its always a show where i try to display my newest work etc. This year i have been much busier (a good thing), and have fallen a bit behind, so i am working at a crazy rate to have some new work for this show.  I have a few characters i always bring, and many that i dont ever bring lol. But what will actually make the show? not sure yet..... I regret to say i will not have my own comics completed this year for Heroes Con, but i will have sample art pages etc. The books will be ready for Baltimore and Cola Con. Also check the news and events page for the updated list of shows. I am waiting on word for NYCC, and have been added to C4 the Winnipeg Canada show.  Still working out details on Canada, but it looks pretty good that i will be there. First time being there and looking forward to it!!  .....In other news, i have a few projects i am working on doing illustrations for, and i will up date info as thing near completion etc. One Project is close to the Heart and titled "Best Friends" written by Micheal Callahan and is an amazing story, i hope to bring visual justice to.  The other is a comic from Dark City comics called Epic.  I am currently only working on the preview pages for the preview issues, but it looks pretty solid that i will be the official artist for the main book Epic. Its written by Lonnie Lowe Jr. So far its been great working with him, and i will post more later, but the Second to last picture listed above is Epic.... in all ways lol..... the images above also represent other things i have been doing, design, illustration, concept and art show work. I was to have an art show here in Charlotte on June 8th, starting after Heroes con had ended that Saturday, but the location, Poor Richards Book Shoppe, had a pretty f%^k3d up situation happen and are in the process of relocating Details aside, they are good people and i hate that this happened, but i know they will bounce back and if i can help with things in anyway i shall!! . So, in the meantime, i am in the process of figuring out where to take the show.   I have spoken to a few people/ places, and still searching, if anyone has any thoughts, please let me know. I would appreciate it.....  Aside from this, i am working and working and hope to keep working..... so if you have some work for me, please bring it forward!! Hope to see all at an event soon, oh.... yea, i may have lost some people due to a funny thing that happened with my orignal web site Rebel Star Studio Dot Com.... i will explain later, but the blog is the place to find me now until i relocate.... or not..... love, peace, soul to all..... oh..... animation on the way.... documentary, and art vids..... all soon!

I had a great show at Heroes Mini Con, and I have some other great shows and news to update soo as well. I will be at Charlotte ComiCon in April thanks to Dave and Rick as well as a last minute change that will have me in Chicago as well in April for C2E2!!!! This will be my second year attending this show, and I didn't think I was gonna get to do it this year, but then I got an email that changed that! I hope to be somewhere for Free comic book day, I have also added a new con the Comic Book City Con in Greensboro NC to my list this year, confirmed for Baltimore in Spetember, Heroes Con in June, waiting to work out NC Con which I loved last year, as well as waiting to work out Cola Con in Columbia SC, there are a few others I am looking at as well as an event I did in Indian Trail last year that I would love to do this year if it is happening.  Also, I think it is pretty much a lock that I will be doing a solo art show in June Called "the Beautiful Ugly". Details on date, time, location will be placed in the news section soon, along with the info on the cons and another update later!! Aight more to come....
